Katie was born and raised on Long Island, and from spring training until the last out of the season, lives and dies by the Mets. She is a science teacher at a parochial school in Chicago. She can usually be found photographing everything, then scrapbooking it or cooking up something yummy in the kitchen! One of her favorite things to do with AJ is to go for walks by the lake or in Lincoln Park.
AJ
AJ is from South Jersey and went to school in Philadelphia - unfortunately, that means he roots for the Phillies. Now AJ is a chemical engineer in Chicago, soon to be Baton Rouge. He loves to play golf and watch lots of movies. One of AJ's favorite date nights is going out for a nice dinner and a glass (or two!) of scotch!
How We Met
Katie and AJ met in a riot.
Okay, that statement requires some back story.
Katie was visiting Philadelphia for the National Science Teachers Association conference. After the conference was over, she and a co worker went out on South Street. They were walking back to the hotel when her co worker had to go to the bathroom, so they stopped at a (kind of sketchy looking) bar.
AJ and his friend James (now a groomsman in their wedding) had gone to South Street to buy cigars before heading to a bar closer to their college campus. Before heading back to campus though, they stopped at a (kind of sketchy looking) bar.
Then next thing they knew, the big street view windows were being pulled shut and locked, the open door was shut and locked, and our bouncer was standing in front of the door, not letting anyone leave.
A riot had broken out. Philly had a rash of flash riots in early 2010, they are sort of the same thing as flash mobs, only instead of dancing or having a bike parade down Michigan Avenue, these riots were actually dangerous. This one was rumored to start because Rita's Italian Ice ran out of free ices. The bar was in lock down to keep everyone safe.
AJ was sitting next to Katie, and they started talking.
After the riot ended, he walked with her to get a pretzel, then walked her home.
And the rest, is history.
